Who is Anna?

Konnichiwa! I’m Anna — researcher, data analyst, and the person behind TokyoToyLab. I built this site because I noticed something missing: reliable, data-driven information about Japanese intimate wellness products in English.

Living in Tokyo

I live in Tokyo with my partner Ken, in a neighborhood between Shibuya’s energy and Nakameguro’s calm riverside walks. Our mornings start with the rhythm of passing trains and coffee from a local kissaten. In spring, the Meguro River becomes a tunnel of cherry blossoms — Ken and I never get tired of walking beneath them.

Living here shapes how I approach this work. Japan’s culture of monozukuri (craftsmanship) and attention to detail isn’t just a marketing phrase — you see it in everything from konbini bento boxes to the engineering of intimate wellness products. That cultural context matters when evaluating these products, and it’s something you can’t get from a review written thousands of miles away.

Our Research Approach

TokyoToyLab isn’t a typical review blog. We aggregate and analyze real user data from multiple sources to give you the most complete picture possible.

For every product we cover, we collect data from:

  • Amazon Japan — Japanese consumer reviews and ratings
  • FANZA (DMM) — Japan’s largest adult marketplace reviews and sales data
  • Reddit communities (r/SexToys, r/OnaholeToys, etc.) — English-language user discussions and recommendations
  • Manufacturer websites — Official specifications and product philosophy
  • Kanojo Toys — International pricing and availability
  • Independent review sites — Professional and community reviews

We compile this data into structured research profiles, tracking review counts, rating distributions, commonly praised features, and frequently reported issues — all with specific mention rates so you know how widespread each opinion actually is.

Why This Approach?

One person’s experience with a product is just that — one data point. When I tell you that 72% of reviewers praise a product’s quiet motor, or that 25% mention its price as a concern, you’re getting a much more reliable picture than any single review can provide.

I also bridge a real information gap. Many of the best Japanese wellness products have extensive review coverage in Japanese that English-speaking buyers never see. We analyze those Japanese-language sources and bring those insights to our English content.

Anna & Ken

I handle research, data analysis, and reviews of products designed for women. Ken contributes his perspective on men’s products and couples’ items. Together we cover the full spectrum of Japanese intimate wellness products.

We’re not trying to sell you something — we’re trying to give you the information to make a good decision. If a product isn’t worth buying, our data will show that, and we’ll tell you directly.

Our Values

  • Data Over Opinions: Every claim we make is backed by aggregated user data. We show you the numbers and our sources.
  • Transparency: Our methodology is open. Every article includes a research overview showing exactly where our data comes from.
  • Honesty Over Commission: We participate in the Kanojo Toy affiliate program, but our research methodology doesn’t change based on whether a product is available through our affiliate partner.
  • Cultural Bridge: We bring Japanese-language reviews and insights to English-speaking readers who otherwise wouldn’t have access to this information.
